Emergency Care and Recovery Centres (ECRCs)

Emergency Care and Recovery Centres (ECRCs) are ‘intermediary care’ in-patient Mental Health Facilities, established to offer comprehensive care, including Psychiatric & Medical treatment, family re-integration and rehabilitation Services to Homeless Persons with Mental Illness (HPWMI). There are 34 ECRCs functional in the State which includes both Government and NGO supported ECRCs. Efforts are underway to scale up ECRCs to cover all districts in the upcoming months. Aiming to strengthen care and support for these ultra-vulnerable populations, Tamil Nadu has released ‘the Tamil Nadu State Policy for Care of Homeless Persons with Mental Illness and Implementation Framework’ on 27th February 2025.
