Key Components of NVHCP
1. Screening of Antenatal Mothers
All registered antenatal mothers are screened for Hepatitis B using HBsAg rapid card tests.
- If tested positive, they are referred to higher health facilities such as SDH, DH or Medical College Hospitals.
- Further clinical management and follow-up care are provided at these centres.
2. HBIG Administration to Newborns
Newborns delivered to Hepatitis B positive mothers are administered:
- Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin (HBIG)
- Birth dose of Hepatitis B vaccine
This intervention helps prevent mother-to-child transmission of Hepatitis B infection.
3. Screening and Treatment for Hepatitis B & C
- High-risk groups and the general population are screened using rapid card tests.
- Individuals who test positive are referred to treatment centres.
- Viral load testing and further evaluation are conducted.
- Eligible patients are initiated on appropriate treatment for Hepatitis B or C.
4. Hepatitis B Immunisation
Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable disease. Under NVHCP:
- Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine are administered at 0, 1 and 6 months.
- Vaccination is provided to healthcare workers to reduce occupational risk.
5. Awareness and Prevention
Public awareness campaigns promote safe injection practices, infection prevention and other measures to reduce transmission of viral hepatitis.
